Toyota Fortuner 2023 launched: More expensive, more equipment, upgraded engine more powerful than Everest

The 2023 updated version of Toyota Fortuner has just been announced in Thailand with some minor changes in equipment and price.

On August 2, Toyota Thailand announced the 2023 update for the Fortuner SUV lineup in the region.

Starting with the Toyota Fortuner Leader version, this version is supplemented with the TPMS tire pressure control system. The metallic silver paint color has been slightly changed with a brighter tone. The price of the car increased slightly and insignificantly (4,000 baht, equivalent to nearly 2.8 million VND).

Switching to the highest regular version is the Toyota Fortuner Legender, this configuration now also has the TPMS tire pressure control system. Along with that, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity appeared for the first time. In return, the car price increased by 15,000 baht, equivalent to nearly 10.4 million VND.

The GR Sport version of the Toyota Fortuner 2023 is the version that has received the most improvements. The 2.8L turbocharged diesel transmission has increased parameters by 10%. This version’s capacity increased from 204 to 224 horsepower, torque from 500 to 550 Nm. This parameter is much stronger than the highest-end Everest diesel version.

In addition, the TMPS tire pressure control system is also added on this configuration, as well as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The entertainment screen has been replaced with a new 9-inch type. The price increase of Fortuner GR Sport is the most obvious compared to the above versions (40,000 baht equivalent to 27.7 million VND). This version is not currently available in Vietnam, the highest configuration in the country is currently the Legender version mentioned above.

The future of Toyota Fortuner is still a hot topic of discussion. This name line previously used the same Toyota Hilux pickup chassis. However, it is almost certain that when the Hilux is launched in the middle of the decade, it will change its chassis to use the same Toyota Tacoma in North America. Will the next generation Fortuner be similarly changed or will it be separate and use an upgraded version of the old chassis?

In February this year, Toyota first revealed its plan to electrify the Fortuner and Hilux – two car models that share the same chassis.

The date for this change is expected to be in 2024. Hybrid technology is applied as a complementary type that helps save more fuel (10%) instead of being a plug-in hybrid like other Toyota models.

The fact that Toyota planned to electrify the old Fortuner at such a late time shows the possibility that this SUV model’s life cycle will be extended. The current generation of Fortuner launched in July 2015 and has entered its 8th year on the market.
