Mazda is aiming to upgrade its SUV lineup and evolve to electric technology, but it looks like the smallest model in the family, the Mazda2, will undergo a complete overhaul.
According to Japan’s Response newspaper, the Mazda2 is expected to launch in the fall of 2024 with a completely new look. Currently, there is still little confirmed information, and it is unclear whether Mazda will develop a separate platform for it or use it with the MX-30 model. There is a high possibility that the Mazda2 will inherit a new design language, similar to the recent CX5 and CX8 models.

According to design images leaked online, the front of the car will be heavily influenced by the CX-60, with small sharp headlights, a thin and wide grille, with horizontal bars and a contour. Red runs through the logo. The fog lights are placed at the corner of the wheel and the highlight is the swept-back chrome bar. The front bumper is simply designed. Inside the cabin, the new Mazda Connect infotainment system will be equipped, and there will be changes to the dashboard.

The engine line-up will be diverse, including a 3-cylinder in-line gasoline engine with mild hybrid system “Skyactiv-G 1.5L,” a diesel gasoline engine “SkyActiv-D 1.5,” and a 3-cylinder in-line gasoline engine “Skyactiv-X 1.5” – this technology was recently introduced by Mazda.
Furthermore, Mazda also plans to install a rotary engine on this model. The powertrain will use a plug-in hybrid engine based on an 830 cc rotary engine, which Mazda introduced on the MX-30 Rotary EV as a generator to optimize performance and reduce environmental emissions. . If this project is successful, the new generation Mazda2 will become a competitor worth watching in the small car segment.
