VinFast, a famous Vietnamese electric car brand, is attracting the attention of many people because the selling price of their electric car models abroad is lower than the domestic market. This huge difference in price not only makes consumers curious but also raises many questions.
Recently, VinFast announced the selling price of the VF e34 car model in Indonesia, and the surprise came when its price was significantly lower than the Vietnamese market. This car, without battery, is sold for 315 million rupees (equivalent to 497 million VND) in Indonesia, while the listed price in Vietnam is 710 million VND. This is something that surprises many people.
Not only the VF e34 model, the VF 8 model also has an “export” price in the US market of 37,300 USD (eco version) and 44,300 USD (Plus version), equivalent to about 882 to 1 billion VND. Compared to the listed price in Vietnam, the VF 8 model is also sold at a cheaper price of about 200 million VND.
So, what is the reason for this large difference? In fact, it comes from policies supporting taxes and fees for electric vehicles in different countries.
In the US, VinFast VF 8 enjoys a credit incentive package of 7,500 USD/vehicle, like many other electric car models produced here. This helps reduce the price of the car and makes the selling price more competitive.
In the Indonesian market, the subsidy policy for electric vehicles is very large. The country offers 80 million rupees ($5,200) for each pure electric car and 40 million rupees ($2,600) for hybrid cars. Furthermore, from February 20, 2024, Indonesia will also waive special consumption tax (11%) for electric vehicles in 2024 and exempt import taxes until the end of the year. In total, an electric car sold in Indonesia can be supported up to about 7,400 USD, equivalent to 174 million VND, a number of great benefits for buyers and sellers.
